The Fourth of July is a day where many La Cuenta readers and contributors are unable to work due to holiday closures. As this country celebrates being “Free and Independent,” the undocumented community is treated as anything but. Importantly, this country is not independent, though. It depends on undocumented labor.
We will be back with a new poetry series next week. In the meantime, we want to let you know about an upcoming film.
Premiering on Tuesday, July 9 at 7 pm PT on PBS, From Here, From There (De Aquí/De Allá) features the story of Luis Cortes Romero, the first undocumented attorney to argue a case before the U.S. Supreme Court as part of a powerful legal team fighting Trump’s administration’s attempt to rescind DACA.
Set for release amidst this volatile election year and ongoing DACA threats, From Here/From There (De Aquí/De Allá) is a timely documentary highlighting the urgent need for compassionate immigration reform. Learn more about the film and streaming options on their website fromherefromthere.com.
Join us in the coming weeks for a conversation with the film’s producer Nicole Solis Sison.
We’ll see you next week!
