A word about "independence" and an upcoming film

From Here, From There premieres on July 9th.

The Fourth of July is a day where many La Cuenta readers and contributors are unable to work due to holiday closures. As this country celebrates being “Free and Independent,” the undocumented community is treated as anything but. Importantly, this country is not independent, though. It depends on undocumented labor.

We will be back with a new poetry series next week. In the meantime, we want to let you know about an upcoming film.

Premiering on Tuesday, July 9 at 7 pm PT on PBS, From Here, From There (De Aquí/De Allá) features the story of Luis Cortes Romero, the first undocumented attorney to argue a case before the U.S. Supreme Court as part of a powerful legal team fighting Trump’s administration’s attempt to rescind DACA.
